Cake Cutting Guide

When cut properly, a cake can yield a range of slices from large party wedges, dessert slices used for weddings, or even a slighter coffee slice.

Wedge Portions

The most common way to slice a cake is into wedges – just like a pizza! With wedge portions, we don't worry about getting maximum portions from a cake, so we can slice it a few different ways to get just the right number of slices.

6” Round

The 6” round cake can be cut for 4 to 8 servings.

8” Round

The 8” round cake can be cut for 8 to 16 servings.

10” Round

The 10” round cake can be cut for 12 to 20 servings.

Wedding Cake Portions

The standard for Wedding Cake Portionsa wedding cake slice is 2” wide, 1” deep, and at least 3½“ tall, which is generous enough to display the colors of the filling and the crumb of the sponge. In some cases where a larger dessert service is present, the cake may be cut into coffee slices, which are 1” wide, 1” deep, and at least 3½“ tall.
